| Topic: Factors affecting and affected by user acceptance of computer-based nursing documentation: Results of a Two Year Study Nursing process - is a process by which nurses deliver care to patient. It is originally an adapted form of problem-solving, a patient centered, goal oriented method of caring that provides a frame work to the nursing care. That is why it must be documented properly and accurately through paper-based systems. Documentation is the written and legal recording of the interventions that concern the patient and it includes a sequence of processes. It is established through the personal record of the patient, which constitutes a base of information on the situation of his/her health. The importance of this is neuralgic. Without it, there cannot be a complete qualitative nursing intervention and not even an effective care for the patient. The article introduced a computer-based nursing documentation system for the analysis of user acceptance. According to it, Computer-based nursing documentation systems allow the storage of predefined problems, goals, tasks, and care plans to support efficient nursing care planning. As technology becomes more advance in healthcare, there is an increasing need to measure its impact on key quality indicators, such as error reduction, patient safety, and cost benefit ratios. If computer-based nursing documentation is designed to decrease medical errors, the baseline error rate must be determined before implementation to accurately measure the impact. Given the opportunity to adopt a technology would eliminate the need to manually document nursing process, which is not an ideal. I agree in statement of this study: | Quote: | | “Unless nurses accept and understand the nursing process, computer support may be useless or even harmful.” | Clinical documentations through paper-based system is enough. However, introducing of a computer-based nursing documentation would benefit nurses for the improvement of their nursing process skills but it would need a long time frame for adaptation and acceptance.
There should be a time measurements questionnaires, documentation analysis and interviews about the documentation of nursing process through the use of computer-based system to determine the advantages and disadvantages of computer-based nursing documentation.
The good about this study, is that a computer-based documentation system had no effect or a negative effect on the acceptance of the nursing process as a basis for nursing care. According to the study, introduction of computer-based system in nursing does not have an influence on the general acceptance of computers. |

| Widespread use of Computers nowadays can not be denied. As time passes, the use of computers continue to proliferate. Hospitals this day also use computer in encoding documents . Compared to the traditional way of documenting, Computer based nursing documentation is more convenient to use because this requires the nurse to save time and effort. By just simply clicking tools in a computer set, data can be instantly installed. It also allow the transfer of document from one area to another without utilizing much effort. | Nursing documentation is an important part of clinical documentation. However, documentation of the nursing process is frequently lacking quality. There are high expectations that computer support in nursing documentation will help improve documentation quality. Now a days computer technologies is being used in almost all workplaces. But accepting this kind of technology is somehow not easy because not all employees are computer literate, in hospitals for example, aged-nurses would find using computer a little bit confusing because during their school days computers are not widely used yet. Introducing this kind of technology in hospitals would require administrators to purchase computer units to be used, making it impossible to impose because not all hospitals in the Philippines can afford to buy computer units. | During each shift, the nurse is responsible for performing patient assessments, administering medications, monitoring patient parameters, performing hygiene and physical therapy activities, assisting with procedures, then consulting with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other caregivers. Keeping family members informed. and documenting care. With so many responsibilities and so much information to assimilate, it is not surprising that at times certain tasks escape the nurse’s attention. Maybe we must have to think of more esier way to do this tasks. Computer based charting may help to reduce these kind of multiple tasks for nurses, but it also had a risks. Many people in our country are still having dificulties in coping with our present technology. REFERENCE: http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=150371&tool=pmcentrez |
